This 2-day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga is the perfect way to experience the beauty and diversity of southern Morocco in a short time. You’ll travel through the majestic High Atlas Mountains, visit the famous Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, and cross breathtaking valleys and oases on your way to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga.
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Aït Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Merzouga Desert
Early in the morning, begin your adventure from Marrakech and travel through the stunning High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, stop at scenic viewpoints to admire the breathtaking landscapes and take memorable photos.
Next, continue toward the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou, famous for its ancient Kasbahs and movie sets such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring the village and enjoying lunch, proceed through Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert.”
Then, drive across the beautiful valleys and towns of Tinghir and Erfoud before finally arriving in Merzouga at sunset. Here, your camel awaits for a magical trek over the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, followed by Berber music under the stars. Spend the night in a comfortable desert camp surrounded by the peaceful silence of the Sahara.
Day 2: Merzouga Desert – Alnif – Agdz – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
At dawn, wake up to witness the magnificent sunrise over the dunes — an unforgettable sight. After breakfast, return to Merzouga village by camel or 4×4, then begin your journey back to Marrakech.
Along the route, pass through Rissani and Alnif, while crossing the scenic Draa Valley, known for its palm groves and ancient villages. Stop for lunch in Agdz or Nkob, before continuing through Ouarzazate and across the High Atlas Mountains.
By evening, arrive back in Marrakech, bringing your short yet unforgettable Sahara adventure to a perfect end.
